Former USAA chief executive officer Josue “Joe” Robles Jr., 78, died July 4.
In a post to X, the company said: “Joe was a soldier at his core, and his service included multiple deployments and several distinguished honors. General Robles led with integrity and commitment – to our teammates, our members and our great country.”

Maj. Gen. Robles announced early in 2014 he would be stepping down from San Antonio, Texas-based USAA. Several years later, Robles revealed he had Parkinson’s disease.
After serving on the USAA board of directors from 1990 to 1994 while on active duty, Robles joined the company in 1994 as chief financial officer and controller. He also served as corporate treasurer and chief administrative officer before assuming the role of CEO and president in 2007.
During Robles’ tenure as CEO, USAA membership grew 53 percent, revenue grew 45 percent, and net worth jumped 68 percent, USAA said.
