A North Carolina town police department partnered with out of state investigators to bust a multi-state organized cargo theft ring, according to a Facebook announcement by the Town of Kenley police department.
The investigation resulted in the location of a 53 foot J.B. Hunt trailer.
Both the trailer and its contents had been reported stolen, according to officers.
The driver of the vehicle was located at a local truck stop. After a brief struggle, the subject was taken into custody. During the arrest, officers located a concealed handgun.
Officers applied for and were granted a search warrant for the trailer. During the execution of the search warrant, officers located approximately $258,000 worth of stolen copper wire.
The driver was charged with:
• Felony Possession of Stolen Goods/ Property
• Felony Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle
• Carrying a Concealed Gun
The investigation remains ongoing.
