AIG picked a Guy Carpenter veteran executive to lead its operations in Japan. AXIS chose a new head for its AXIS Specialty Europe aviation business in continental Europe.

American International Group appointed James Nash to lead its operations in Japan.

When he joins the company by early 2021, he will be president and CEO of AIG Japan Holdings KK. He’ll report to Jon Hancock, Chief Executive Officer of International General Insurance and will be based in Tokyo.

Nash succeeds Robert Noddin, who will assume the role of non-executive Chairman, AIG Japan, until his retirement in 2021. In his new role, Nash will be tasked with overseeing AIG’s operations and subsidiary companies in Japan, which the insurer said comprise the largest foreign general insurance company in the country

Nash joins AIG from Guy Carpenter, where he was most recently CEO of the International Division with responsibility for Asia Pacific, EMEA and Latin America. Nash joined Guy Carpenter in 1985 and has nearly 35 years’ experience in the industry, including 15 years in leadership roles in Japan. In 2008, he assumed the role of CEO, Asia Pacific, serving on the firm’s Global Executive Committee.

AXIS Insurance is bringing on Filip Vandeputte to lead its AXIS Specialty Europe aviation business in continental Europe.

Vandeputte will serve as Branch Manager and Brussels Office Lead for Aviabel, as well as Branch Manager and Amsterdam Office Lead for Aviabel’s Dutch brand “NLP” (“Nederlandse Luchtvaartpool”). Aviabel is the European specialty aviation insurer and reinsurer owned by AXIS.

Both Branch Manager appointments are subject to regulatory approval. Vandeputte reports to Terry Wood, Global Head of Aviation at AXIS.

Vandeputte has more than 30 years of insurance industry experience. Before joining AXIS, he was executive director of Nuytten Verzekeringen, a boutique brokerage in Belgium.

Vandeputte began his career as a non-life claims handler at Royale Belge, before joining Aviabel as an underwriter in 1989. At Aviabel, he held a series of senior management roles, eventually assuming responsibility for the underwriting operation, taking on the role of chief underwriting officer before departing in 2016.
