The severe thunderstorms that struck the Midwest last week produced hail up to baseball size, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Large hail occurred from New Glarus east to Edgerton, Wisconsin, according to the weather service, causing damage to vehicles, windows and siding.
Very large hail prompted NWS Milwaukee to issue its first-ever “destructive,” or level 3/3 Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of Dane, Jefferson and Rock Counties.
Torrential downpours also accompanied the storms, resulting in flash flooding in portions of the Midwest.
Storm damage restoration company, Allied Emergency Services, reported hail damage across Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan.
More than 280,000 homes were affected, with hail sizes reaching 2.75 inches, the company stated.
The most affected cities included:
- Madison, WI: 119,444 homes impacted
- Milwaukee, WI: 60,257 homes impacted
- Flint, MI: 822 homes impacted by wind
