The number of flooded cars back on the road increased 6 percent over last year, according to a new report by Carfax.

Already in 2025, there are an estimated 482,000 flood-damaged vehicles still in use, an increase over the 454,000 on the road in 2024.

The top 10 cities with the most flood-damaged vehicles on the road:

  1. Houston, Texas — 30,600
  2. Tampa/St. Pete — 29,900
  3. Miami/Fort Lauderdale — 25,300
  4. New York — 24,200
  5. Philadelphia — 19,100
  6. Lexington — 13,400
  7. Dallas/Fort Worth — 12,000
  8. Chicago — 10,300
  9. Louisville — 9,500
  10. Los Angeles — 9,100

Flooded cars often show signs of damage. These include visual signs like corroded metal, warped or rusted brakes and rotors, and muddy seats. Other signs may consist of a musty odor, computer or warning light malfunctions.
