Farmers Insurance announced that Kevin Yoo will join the organization as chief claims officer effective July 12.

Yoo has an extensive insurance background, having served in senior claims roles at CSAA, Chubb, Allstate and Progressive throughout the last 20 years. His most recent role was at Five Sigma, a startup claims technology company, where he served as chief operating officer. In that position, he oversaw operational aspects of the business, including client marketing and sales, investor relations, technology development and client deployment.

Yoo succeeds Rob Howard, who will retire in October. Howard has served as Farmers’ chief claims officer since 2018. He joined Farmers in 1987 and has held numerous senior leadership roles including head of Property Field Claims and head of Claims Shared Services prior to his current role.

Specialty insurer Hiscox has appointed Dan Kovac as U.S. chief risk officer. In this newly created role, he will provide strategic risk oversight and management for the U.S. business.

Kovac will report to Hanna Kam, group CRO, and serve on the Hiscox USA Leadership Team. He will be based out of San Antonio, Texas.

Prior to joining Hiscox, Kovac spent over 15 years with USAA, most recently serving as chief risk officer for the P&C division and previously as the chief of staff to the CEO. He has strong expertise in product and underwriting management, and previously provided independent consulting services within the Financial Services industry.

Swiss Re announced the appointment of Ali Shahkarami as global head P&C Solutions, effective July 1.

Based in Munich, Shahkarami will lead a global team of insurance and data experts to deliver state-of-the-art property, specialty and casualty solutions for clients of Swiss Re’s newly launched Reinsurance Solutions division. He will report to Russell Higginbotham, CEO Reinsurance Solutions.

Shahkarami joins Swiss Re from Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty, where he was chief data officer. Prior to that role, he held various leadership positions at AGCS in Munich and California, ranging from catastrophe risk modeling and research to innovating technology solutions for underwriting use cases and relevant processes.

Before joining AGCS, he was a lead cat risk modeler at RMS. A civil engineer by training, Shahkarami holds a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the University of British Columbia, Canada. He spent several years in the fields of structural engineering and material science with specific applications to aerospace.
