For the fifth consecutive year, vendor-related issues (55%) were the leading cause of paid wedding insurance claims in 2025, according to data from The Travelers Companies, Inc.
The data highlights the top wedding vulnerabilities – including vendor failures and extreme weather – and underscores the importance of having a financial safety net in place.
“People invest so much time, energy and money into making their wedding day perfect,” said Deidre LeBlanc, vice president of Specialty Lines for Personal Insurance at Travelers. “Knowing what has gone wrong for others is one of the best ways to prepare, and having the right protection in place can provide peace of mind when the unforeseeable occurs.”
Others top causes of paid wedding insurance claims in 2025 included:
- Illness or injury (16%).
- Extreme weather (10%).
- Accidental damage or injury (6%).
- Military deployment (3%).
To avoid wedding-day disruptions, Travelers recommends:
- Vetting vendors. Research reviews and get referrals before placing any deposits.
- Planning for weather disruptions. It is essential to secure a wedding insurance policy before any named storm.
- Accounting for liability. Careful planning doesn’t eliminate the risk of accidental damage or injury. The right policy can account for that.
- Buying insurance coverage early. Many scenarios are only covered if a policy is secured well in advance. It’s best to lock in a special events policy as soon as a deposit is placed.
