An Arizona man has been sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for committing more than a dozen vehicle thefts throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area, according to a news release published last week by Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell.
Last year, Phoenix Police received a report of a stolen vehicle near 40th Street and Camelback Road in Phoenix. The stolen vehicle had tracking software that allowed police to locate it near McCormick Ranch Golf Club, where they arrested the defendant, Jashwa Hicks.
After the arrest, police searched the defendant’s phone and found photos, videos, social media posts, and text messages linking him to 14 other vehicle thefts from October 2024 to April 2025. The total value of the stolen vehicles and personal items totaled over $600,000.
At the time of his arrest, the defendant was on probation for two other vehicle thefts he had committed in May and July of 2024.
Hicks pleaded guilty to a total of seven counts of Theft of Means of Transportation, a Class Three Felony, and one count of Misconduct Involving Weapons, a Class Four Felony.
Multiple victims stated in court filings that their lives were significantly impacted not only by the financial losses but also by the lasting fear and anxiety resulting from the incidents. One victim shared, “Emotionally, this experience left me feeling violated, stressed, and constantly on edge.”
“Losing access to a vehicle can be devastating for families,” said County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “This defendant was given multiple opportunities to correct his behavior, but instead chose to re-offend and showed no remorse for the financial damage and hardship he caused.”
