The veteran CFO at State Auto Financial Corp. is retiring after 21 years with the company.
Steven English, State Auto’s senior vice president and chief financial officer, will remain with the insurer through the end of 2021 to ensure an orderly transition to his replacement.
The Ohio-based insurer hired an executive search firm to identify a successor.
State Auto President and CEO Mike LaRocco credited English with being instrumental in the company’s growth and transformation.
LaRocco said in prepared remarks that the executive “has ensured a strong financial position for [State Auto] through his thoughtful and disciplined decision making and has a proven record of success collaborating with investors, lenders, regulators and boards of directors.”
English joined State Auto in 2001 as part of the company’s affiliation with Meridian Insurance Group, where he served as chief financial officer and treasurer. Before joining Meridian in 2000, English was vice president of planning for Conseco, having begun his career with Coopers & Lybrand in 1982.
State Auto Financial Corporation, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, is a super-regional property and casualty insurance holding company.
