We have some executive promotions and hires to tell you about at Allied World, JLT Re and Guy Carpenter:

Allied World Assurance Company Holdings has hired a Starr Companies executive to help with its Asia-Pacific expansion.

Michael Garrison will take on the role of senior vice president of Asia-Pacific for a division at the Swiss insurer/reinsurer division known as Allied World Markets. He’ll report to division president Julian James andAllied World relocate to Singapore in December. His new task: to lead global markets insurance operations in the Asia-Pacific region, pursuing Allied World’s strategic plan through its office in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia.

Before coming to Allied World, Garrison was senior vice president and chief underwriting officer at Starr Companies. While there, he created and developed first-party underwriting platforms for International Onshore Energy, Global Construction, Global Exploration & Production and International General Property, among other tasks.

Garrison takes over for William Cotter at Allied World, who will be returning to the U.S. to manage the North American business development team at Allied World North America.

JLT Re is brining on three executives from Miller and Oxford Insurance Brokers in order to develop and diversify its Programs and Binding Authority Division.

The London-based reinsurance broker and consultancy chose Mark Sleet as a partner who will be focused on general casualty. At Miller, he specialized in casualty business. Lee Collins, a former director at Oxford, is now a JLT Re partner slated to focus on specialty and professional lines. Adrian Steele, another Oxford vet, plans to join JLT Re in August, and he’ll focus on the same areas that Collins does.

Separately, JLT Re has appointed a former Willis Re senior vice president in a new executive role.

Tom Phelan is now JLT Re senior vice president in North America. He will be part of the specialty reinsurance brokerage unit, focusing on professional liability and specialty casualty areas. He’ll be based in Atlanta, Georgia to establish a beachhead for JLT Re in the city.

Guy Carpenter & Co. said it has hired on Mark Talerico as managing director in the firm’s Tampa, Fla. Office.

In his new role, Talerico will report to Tampa branch manager George Carse, working with Tampa clients, prospects and respective account teams. He’ll also collaborate with GC Analytics and Guy Carpenter Strategic Advisory.

Talerico was most recently chief risk and underwriting officer at Naragansett Bay Insurance Company in Rhode Island, where he oversaw the firm’s distribution of Risk in homeowners insurance. This is a return to Guy Carpenter for Talerico, who was previously senior vice president portfolio management for the reinsurance broker, analytics and strategic advisory firm.
