As peak wedding season gets underway, The Travelers Companies, Inc. is highlighting the common causes of loss resulting in wedding insurance claims.
“Soon-to-be-weds already have enough to worry about leading up to their big day,” said Deidre LeBlanc, vice president of Specialty Lines for Personal Insurance at Travelers. “By understanding the most common mishaps, they can be better prepared to handle unexpected challenges.”
The average cost of the ceremony and reception averages $33,000, according to The Knot’s 2025 Real Weddings Study.
According to company data, vendor issues were the most frequent cause of wedding insurance claims in 2024, accounting for 27 percent of all paid claims.
On average, 10 vendors are hired per wedding, The Knot’s study further revealed.
Beyond issues with vendors, the most common sources of claims included:
- Illness or injuries (24 percent).
- Extreme weather (22 percent).
- Property damage (15 percent).
Travelers offers coverage that extends from the rehearsal dinner through the main event and brunch the morning after.
