Liberty Mutual Insurance on Monday announced the immediate appointments of Becca Sniderman and Toby Smith as chief underwriting officers for Casualty and Specialty, respectively, for Global Risk Solutions (GRS) North America.

Sniderman has been with Liberty Mutual Insurance for 18 years, holding a variety of roles in Actuarial, Product and Underwriting. She will be responsible for managing product development, product maintenance, pricing and profitability for GRS Casualty lines. She reports to Brandon Fick, chief underwriting officer, GRS North America.

Smith has been with Liberty Mutual Insurance for 14 years holding various roles in Specialty lines, most recently leading GRS North America, Casualty and Environmental. He will be responsible for overseeing the underwriting strategy and portfolio management of the North America specialty lines of business. He reports jointly to Matt Dolan, GRS president, North America Specialty, and Fick.

Swiss Re has named Monica Ningen as CEO of US P&C Reinsurance, and Jolee Crosby has been appointed to take over Ningen’s former role as president and CEO of Swiss Re Canada & English Caribbean effective July 1, 2023.

Both roles are subject to regulatory approval.

Ningen has replaced Keith Wolfe, who has decided to pursue opportunities outside of Swiss Re. He will stay with Swiss Re until July.

In her new role leading US P&C, Ningen will lead a team of client managers, claims experts and underwriters while maintaining Swiss Re’s position as a trusted partner in its largest market. She has nearly three decades of experience in the re/insurance industry, starting her career at E.W. Blanch, a reinsurance broker. She joined Swiss Re in 2006 when it acquired GE Insurance Solutions. Since that time, she has held several leadership roles in Property Underwriting, including head of Property Underwriting US & Canada.

Crosby will manage Swiss Re’s P&C and L&H businesses in Canada and the English Caribbean regions and will also oversee teams managing claims, underwriting and client and broker relationships. She has 25 years of international experience in the re/insurance industry, joining Swiss Re in 1998 after a successful career in insurance law. She has held leadership positions in both the Property and Casualty and Life and Health businesses, most recently heading the global L&H Underwriting and Medical Reimbursement team.

Ningen will continue in her current role until July 1 to ensure a smooth transition for clients.

Acuity Insurance has named Melissa Winter president as part of the company’s long-range leadership perpetuation plan.

Ben Salzmann, who has been Acuity’s president and CEO since 1999, will remain as CEO. He anticipates staying with the company for three years to help ensure a successful transition and will also continue to serve as a member of Acuity’s board of directors.

The change is effective immediately.

Winter began her career at Acuity in 1998 as a claims representative and served various roles in Claims before being named vice president – Business Consulting in 2016, where she oversaw Acuity’s dynamic strategic planning process, staff functions and internal innovation teams.

Winter has earned the Casualty Claims Law Associate designation and holds advanced leadership certificates from the University of Milwaukee – Lubar School of Business, University of Wisconsin Executive Education Center, and the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.

AXIS Capital Holdings Limited announced that Gabriel Galanski has joined as head of North America Property & Casualty Programs.

Galanski reports to John Van Decker, president of Global Financial Lines, and will work in close partnership with the company’s Wholesale Division, led by Carlton Maner, AXIS Wholesale CEO.

Prior to joining AXIS, Galanski served as a vice president with the Macquarie Insurance Facility, where he developed relationships with financial sponsors and the management teams of their portfolio companies. Before that, he was an associate client executive at Marsh & McLennan and served in the United States Marine Corps, leaving service as a Captain.
