Zurich Insurance promoted its chief underwriting officer to the role of CEO for its Commercial Insurance division. An Allied World veteran is joining Aon plc as Head of Casualty in its Reinsurance Solutions division in Bermuda.

Zurich Insurance Group appointed Sierra Signorelli, currently group chief underwriting officer, to the role of chief executive officer for Commercial Insurance and as a member of the executive committee.

Signorelli succeeds James Shea, who is leaving Zurich to pursue opportunities outside the company. Signorelli’s successor will be announced at a future time.

Signorelli joined Zurich in July 2017 as chief underwriting officer and became group chief underwriting officer in October 2020. According to the company, she successfully transformed the underwriting function, strengthened its resilience, and ensured delivery of differentiated products and services to Zurich’s customers.

Before Zurich, she held various senior leadership positions for American International Group where she worked for 17 years, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Signorelli’s appointment to the executive committee is subject to regulatory approval.

Aon plc is bringing on John McElroy as part of the Bermuda operations of its Reinsurance Solutions division, subject to Bermuda immigration approval.

Specifically, McElroy will join the firm as Head of Casualty and will be based in Bermuda. He’ll report to Tony Fox, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Bermuda, of Reinsurance Solutions.

McElroy is a 30-year insurance industry veteran, having previously held several positions at Allied World Assurance Company, most recently as Executive Vice President, Global Insurance. He had also served at Gulf Insurance Company as Senior Vice President and Head of its Management Liability Department.
