Hippo hired four new executives in its legal department who will help the company hit the public markets through a reverse merger transaction announced in March. Chubb appointed a rising executive who will oversee and handle construction industry business for its large account segment. The InsurTech Buckle made two executive appointments.

Hippo, an MGA startup focused on digital homeowners insurance, recently made four leadership appointments.

Hippo’s new legal executives will guide the company on its path to the public markets, and support its continued growth and innovation in the industry.

They are:

  • Susan Linder, as Hippo’s Deputy General Counsel of Growth. Previously she was Assistant General Counsel for Warranty & Alternative Risks at CNA Insurance, and prior to that General Counsel for Toyota’s Insurance Management Solutions.
  • Laura Hoensch, now General Counsel of Hippo’s affiliate Spinnaker Insurance Company. She most recently was General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and Head of Government and Regulatory Affairs for Munich Re’s Digital Partners.
  • Moya McKenna, now Hippo’s Insurance Compliance Counsel, who specializes in state insurance regulation and state regulatory compliance. She joins the company from the law firm of Duane Morris LLP and previously the Texas Department of Insurance, where she was Assistant Director, Office of Financial Counsel.
  • Anna Berces, Hippo’s Assistant General Counsel, who joins from Postmates Inc., where she served as Senior Counsel, focusing on a variety of litigation, product compliance, and public company compliance and readiness matters. Before to Postmates, Anna was with Latham & Watkins LLP where she handled SEC related matters and litigation.

Hippo’s newest appointments will report to General Counsel and VP of Compliance, Tracy Bowden, who oversees Hippo’s legal and compliance team.

Chubb appointed Lyndsey Christofer as Executive Vice President, Construction Industry Practice Leader for its large account segment.

She will oversee strategic direction and lead a broad team of construction underwriting and service specialists across multiple lines of business for Chubb’s construction clients and distribution partners. In addition, she will oversee Chubb’s primary casualty and excess liability line of business for large account construction clients.

Christofer will be based in New York and report to Matt Merna, Senior Vice President, Chubb Group, Division President, Chubb North America Major Accounts.

Christofer brings nearly 20 years of actuarial and underwriting experience to this expanded role, having held several underwriting leadership positions throughout her career. Prior to this appointment, she served as Senior Vice President, Underwriting, where she was the primary casualty division lead for Chubb’s Construction Industry Practice.

The InsurTech Buckle appointed AIG veteran executive Adam Landau as its new Chief Information Officer.

Previously, Landau was at PURE Insurance where he spent four years in senior technology roles, most recently as SVP, Chief Technology Officer.

Separately, Buckle hired Paul Lautenshlager as Head of Operations & Distribution. He was previously at USAA where he held various roles for 23 years, most recently as Assistant Vice President, Banking & Insurance Solutions.

Peviously, Landau served American International Group, Inc. for nearly 10 years as Vice President, Chief Technology Officer. He was also Managing Director at Bank of New York Mellon in New York City and worked as a senior consultant at Deloitte.

Lautenshlager is a senior operations executive with leadership experience in insurance, including auto, property, and life, as well as retail banking and healthcare, among others. He has expertise in transforming customer service operations, outsourcing, client management, and customer service for scaling high growth businesses.

Buckle’s focus is on a financial services digital platform centered around insurance, credit and advocacy for the gig economy.
