Zurich North America hired a former Aviva executive to take on a leadership role in Canada for its Group Risk Management team. Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance named a new senior vice president for claims. AXIS Capital Holdings Ltd. appointed two new board members.

Sonia Kundi joined the Zurich North America Group Risk Management team as Canada Chief Risk Officer.

Kundi reports to North America Chief Risk Officer Colleen Zitt and will be a member of her leadership team. She will also be a member of the Zurich Canada Executive Committee and will work in the Toronto office.

Kundi will support Canada as a partner to local management and will ensure that risk frameworks and controls are in place and executed effectively to mitigate material risk to the organization. As well, her duties include providing management reporting and support to local regulatory risk requirements.

Kundi was previously at Aviva Group as a Senior Enterprise Risk Management leader, and has more than 15 years of global insurance experience. She has served globally in both market and group roles in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada and Australia.

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance hired Andy Barberis as Senior Vice President, Claims.

Barberis will be working with the BHSI claims leadership team across the globe on the most catastrophic and complex casualty and healthcare claims.

Barberis has 35 years of commercial claims experience, including the last 23 at AIG where he held the position of Global Claim Officer. He is based in BHSI’s New York office.

AXIS Capital Holdings Limited named Michael Millegan and Axel Theis to its board of directors, effective April 1.

Millegan has been appointed to the Board’s Audit and Compensation Committees and Theis will

Millegan has held numerous executive leadership and management positions within Verizon, where he led large-scale and large-scope business units, and helped to usher in and navigate through significant transformation in the telecom industry. As president of Verizon Global Wholesale Group, he was responsible for $11 billion in sales revenue, 13,000 employees, and $1 billion in capital spending, as well as leading the Verizon Digital Media Services Group.

Theis ran 12 different companies during a 30-plus-year career in insurance and reinsurance. Most recently, he served for five years as a member of the Board of Management of Allianz. Before that he had an eight-year tenure as CEO of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE, following several years as CEO of Allianz Global Risks Rückversicherungs.
