Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance said its U.S. property underwriting division will now include energy and related technical risks, and an AIG executive has been named to lead the new line of coverage.
Paul Kelly will help grow the energy/technical risks business and his title is Head of Energy and Technical Property.
Kelly, a 25-year insurance industry veteran, was most recently senior vice president, property executive, at AIG Property Casualty. He is also held executive slots focused on energy coverage for AIG in the U.S. and London. Further in the past, he was a vice president at Willis Energy, where he specialized in U.S.-based multinational oil and petrochemical risks for over a decade.
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance said Kelly will focus on bringing to market coverages in risk areas including oil and gas, mining, chemical exposures, pharmaceuticals and biotech, high tech electronics and heavy manufacturing.
In recent months, Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has worked to deepen its business in areas including catastrophe engineering/analytics and pollution. It also has expanded geographically into Canada and Hong Kong.
