Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance is expanding into Canada, and it has named executives from Gen Re, AIG and Chubb to help pursue the company’s plan.
There are three hires in all: Scott Miller will be head of Property in Canada, Darryl DeSouza is set to be head of Casualty and Michael Densham is appointed to run BHSI’s Executive & Professional Lines business there, according to the company.
Miller most recently was senior energy marketer and underwriter for Gen Re. He held various executive positions there and was also an energy broker at Aon Reed Stenhouse.
DeSouza comes to BHSI from AIG, where he was an underwriting specialist. Previously, he served in other leadership roles at Swiss Re and General Accident Assurance Company.
Densham was Chubb’s vice president and Canadian Zone Manager, and held a number of other executive positions at the company over the years.
Each of the three executive hires have a long background with the insurance industry in Canada.
“With Scott, Darryl and Michael joining the BHSI team in Toronto, we have an immediate market presence – with decades of experience in Canada, BHSI President Peter Eastwood said in prepared remarks.
The division has also expanded in recent months into Hong Kong and Singapore, among other locations.
