Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company is moving into the Australian market.
Executives launched operations for the insurer in Sydney. BHSI will offer property, casualty, financial lines and marine cargo insurance.
The move follows similar BHSI expansions in recent months in the United States, Canada, Singapore and Hong Kong, and another move is expected soon in New Zealand.
BHSI also announced it has named Chris Colahan as president of its Australasia region. He was most recently at RSA Insurance Group where he served as CEO, Asia, and previously held a similar position for RSA in Hong Kong as well as other executive positions for the company.
Colahan, a native Australian, said in prepared remarks that “BHSI enters the [Australia] market with financial strong capacity and a commitment to serving this market for decades to come.”
