AXA XL hired two new senior underwriters for its Excess & Surplus casualty insurance arm. Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) promoted one of its executives to be Head of Life Sciences in North America.

AXA XL hired two new underwriters for its Excess & Surplus casualty insurance arm: Matthew Moses as Senior Underwriter in New York and Joshua Steele as Senior Underwriter in Scottsdale, Arizona.

With more than 10 years of underwriting experience, Moses joins AXA XL from CapSpecialty where focused his underwriting activities on addressing the E&S casualty needs of the Construction industry. Prior to CapSpecialty, he was at Admiral Insurance group, working in the Midwest, and building up Admiral’s office from ground up.

Steele joins AXA XL’s E&S team from AmTrust. In this newly created role based in AXA XL’s West Zone, Steele will address the needs of wholesale brokers and clients throughout the Southwest. During his 10+ year-career in the insurance industry, he has held underwriting positions with Nationwide, Liberty Mutual and Travelers.

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) promoted Angela Meyer to Head of Life Sciences in North America.

She was previously Head of Life Sciences for the Southeastern region of the U.S.

Meyer “has played a major role in building our North American Life Sciences portfolio for the last seven years, bringing exceptional technical acumen and creative problem-solving to these complex and evolving risks,” said Steve Harris, Vice President, Casualty, BHSI. “In her new role, she will lead our efforts to further expand BHSI’s presence in the Life Sciences market ….”

Meyer joined BHSI in February 2014, and has nearly 20 years of experience in the insurance industry.
