AXIS Capital Holdings appointed two executives to leadership positions within its ILS division. Willis Towers Watson a new Global Head of Broking and Broking Strategy. The Geneva Association chose a new chairman.

AXIS Capital Holdings Ltd. named Patrick Witteveen and Kyle Freeman to serve as Head of AXIS ILS Business Development and Head of ILS Structuring, Property, respectively.

AXIS ILS is the recently re-branded third-party capital unit at AXIS.

Witteveen will lead the global business development for AXIS ILS, which includes sourcing new investors and managing existing relationships. He joins AXIS with 20 years’ experience in business development, raising third-party capital assets and institutional sales, most recently as Head of Investor Relations & Business Development at Securis Investment Partners. He will continue to be based in Zurich, with his appointment effective February 1, 2022.

Freeman will manage existing investor relationships and capital invested in property catastrophe sidecars, catastrophe bonds, joint ventures and other ILS structures. He has prior experience in the ILS market, most recently as Head of North America Programs Pricing at AXA XL.Freeman operates from Boston, and his appointment is effective immediately.

Willis Towers Watson appointed Hugo Wegbrans as Global Head of Broking and Broking Strategy, within its Risk and Broking business segment. He will join the company in early 2022.

Hugo was previously at Aon, most recently as Leader, Global Strategies, for its Commercial Risk Solutions business. Prior to that, he served as Global Chief Broking Officer. He has spent the majority of his 35-year career with Aon.

The Geneva Association appointed Swiss Re CEO Christian Mumenthaler as its new Chairman during its 10 November Board meeting.

Mumenthaler, who has been Vice Chairman since November 2019, succeeds outgoing Chairman Charles Brindamour, CEO of Intact Financial, who remains on the Board. Lee Yuan Siong, Chief Executive & President of AIA, was appointed Vice Chairman.

In addition, Amanda Blanc, CEO of Aviva, was elected as a new Board member at the Statutory Assembly of the Association on 11 November.

“I feel privileged to take on this role at such a crucial time for both our industry and society more broadly, as re/insurers mobilize to confront immense challenges, namely climate change and the after effects of COVID-19, Mumenthaler said in prepared remarks.
