Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance named Tom Mcfarlane to lead its downstream energy property insurance underwriting in Europe as part of a growth initiative there.
Macfarlane comes to BHSI with over 40 years of insurance experience spanning both the underwriting and broking sides of the business. He has held various leadership roles in energy property at AIG, including global head of Energy. He was also previously energy broker and managing director at Marsh & McLennan Companies.
Macfarlane is based in BHSI’s London office.

AXIS Re, the reinsurance business segment of AXIS Capital Holdings Ltd., announced it has hired David Bangs as head of Japan.
Bangs joins AXIS Re from Willis Re Singapore where he served as executive director. Prior to that, he held the role of Japan Representative at Wills Re Tokyo. Bangs will be based in Singapore.
“David brings broad experience in the Japanese market,” Les Loh, AXIS Re President Asia Pacific, said in prepared remarks. “Under his leadership, we look forward to further extending our expertise to our clients in Japan as the market continues to evolve.”
