Allianz picked a new leader for its European direct business. Everest Insurance named a Lloyd’s veteran to be head of its international division.

Allianz named Bart Schlatmann as CEO of its European direct business, effective Sept. 1. He will report to Ivan de la Sota, board member and chief business transformation officer of Allianz SE.

Schlatmann will lead the consolidation of the European direct business of Allianz, including the establishment of a new pan-European risk carrier for the group’s direct businesses, starting with the direct businesses in Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain.

Schlatmann joins Allianz from Russia’s Sberbank, where he served as chief transformation officer, responsible for the digital overhaul of client services. Before that, he worked at the ING Group for 22 years, spending his last 10 years there as chief operating officer of ING Netherlands.

Everest Insurance appointed Vincent Vandendael as CEO of Everest Insurance International.

Vandendael will lead Everest Insurance operations outside of North America, based in London. Also, he will join the Everest Insurance global leadership team and will report to Jonathan Zaffino, president and CEO of Everest Insurance. The specialty insurer is a division of Everest Re Group, Ltd.

Vandendael has 28 years of global insurance industry experience, focused on specialty and financial lines. Before joining Everest, he was chief commercial officer at Lloyd’s of London, responsible for all business development.

While there, Vandendael also led Lloyd’s global network, which includes 31 offices that support Lloyd’s licenses to operate in over 200 territories worldwide. As well, Vandendael helped establish Lloyd’s Brussels subsidiary, which is due to open in 2019 ahead of the U.K.’s exit from the European Union.

Before joining Lloyd’s in 2012, Vandendael spent 17 years in positions of increasing responsibility at Zurich Insurance Company, most recently serving as CEO Global Corporate, Asia Pacific.
