Ryan Specialty Group LLC is expanding its managing underwriting strategy with the launch of reinsurance managing general underwriter RyanRe Underwriting Managers, or RyanRe.

Working through reinsurance brokers, RyanRe can underwrite treaty and facultative reinsurance and will focus on property, casualty and professional liability.

Executive Chairman Michael O’Halleran, a reinsurance veteran, will co-lead RyanRe. He’s previously spent much of his career building Aon Benfield into one of the industry’s largest and most successful reinsurance intermediaries, which he founded in 1987 and from which he recently retired.

O’Halleran’s co-leader will be CEO and President Brian Boornazian, a 35-year reinsurance industry veteran who was most recently chairman of Aspen Re, a place he helped build when it began in 2004.
