Everest Re Group elected a former AIG executive to its board of directors.

The Bermuda-based reinsurer said the election of John Graf to its board was effective on May 18.

Graf retired as chairman, chief executive officer and president of Forethought Financial Group in 2014, following its acquisition by Global Atlantic Financial Group, though he remains as nonexecutive chairman of the board. Before Forethought, he was vice chairman of the board of AXA Financial Inc. and president and CEO for a number of its subsidiaries.

Previously, Graf had also been executive vice president at AIG and joined the insurer when it acquired American General Corp. in 2001.

AXIS Insurance hired an ex-AIG executive as its new U.S. distribution manager.

Matt LoPiccolo will be based in New York and report directly to Edward Ashby, head of distribution for two business men one woman leaders executives womenAXIS Insurance. LoPiccolo is a 20-year insurance industry veteran. Before AXIS, he was at AIG for more than nine years, most recently as the senior vice president of Client & Broker Engagement for AIG’s global Commercial Insurance business.

LoPiccolo also has previous experience through various positions at insurance broker Marsh & McLennan’s Environmental Practice, and he was director of Environmental Risk Management for Thomas Rutherfoord Inc.

Specialty insurer RLI Corp. promoted a longtime executive to become president of its transportation division.

Dan Meyer will succeed Dave Dunn in the role, who recently left RLI to pursue other opportunities. Meyer first signed on with RLI in 2000 as a claim manager. He transitioned to underwriting in 2006 and has been part of the RLI Transportation Division for 16 years, serving for the last 10 years as head of truck underwriting.

RLI Transportation focuses on the truck, public auto and specialty commercial auto industries.

Assurant said it named Emmet Burns to the newly created role of senior vice president, brand marketing.

Burns will handle development and launch of Assurant’s marketing and brand strategies that back its specialty protection housing and lifestyle products and services globally. His job comes as Assurant moves to an enterprise model for marketing.

Burns brings more than 25 years of marketing and branding experience to the table, with leadership roles in financial services and packaged goods sectors, including Barclays, Bank of America, Bayer and Procter & Gamble. Before Assurant, he was senior vice president of brand and integrated marketing director at SunTrust Banks Inc.
