Aspen Reinsurance, the reinsurance segment of Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd, announced the appointment of Jamie Lewis as head of its casualty reinsurance business in London on Tuesday.

Lewis will be responsible for developing Aspen Re’s book of casualty reinsurance treaty and facultative business written from London, including both the U.S. and international casualty portfolios.

“Jamie has a wealth of relevant reinsurance experience, particularly in all sectors of professional liability, and he is ideally qualified to lead our casualty reinsurance business in London,” said Peter Emblin, managing director, head of casualty and specialty reinsurance, in a statement. “This is an important market segment for us, and we are strongly positioned to continue servicing our business, brokers and clients. We are investing in our casualty team in London to ensure that we remain a leading provider of reinsurance solutions there, recognizing the importance of London market distribution.”

Lewis will be joining Aspen Re on Nov. 1, 2013. He is currently president of IronHealth International, Ironshore Europe Ltd, where he is responsible for building IronHealth’s brand in the London market as well as developing its international health care capabilities.

He was previously active underwriter at Renaissance Reinsurance Syndicate Management Ltd (Lloyd’s Syndicate 1458) and prior to that, he was vice president with Renaissance Reinsurance in Bermuda. He had previously held senior underwriting roles with S.J. Helson, S.J.O. Catlin and various others in the London market.
