Arch Insurance International has appointed a new General Counsel. Global specialty insurer/reinsurer SiriusPoint Ltd. named a new Chief Actuary. UK insurer Aviva promoted a veteran executive to the role of chief risk officer.

Arch Insurance International, a unit of Arch Insurance, has appointed Silvia Martinez as General Counsel.

Silvia Martinez

Martinez has extensive corporate governance knowledge and expertise overseeing complex corporate and capital market transactions, with more than 10 years of laegal experience gained in both private practice and in-house roles. Based in London, she will report to Kirsten Valder, Chief Administrative Officer, Arch Insurance International.

Previously, Martinez worked for Aspen Insurance Group where she was Group General Counsel and Company Secretary, and a member of the Group Executive Committee. Earlier roles have included working as an Associate at law firms Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, as well as serving as a Deputy City Attorney for the Oakland City Attorney’s Office.

Justin Brenden

SiriusPoint Ltd. a global specialty insurer and reinsurer, named Justin Brenden to the role of Chief Actuary, subject to approval by the Bermuda Department of Immigration.

As Chief Actuary, Brenden will lead Sirius Point’s actuarial organization, with responsibility for global reserving and aligning pricing to drive to the company’s objective of improving underwriting profitability. He will be based in Bermuda and report to SiriusPoint Chief Financial Officer, David Junius.

Before the merger between Third Point Re and Sirius Group, Mr. Brenden served as EVP, Chief Reserving Actuary at Third Point Re. He joined Third Point Re in its first year of operations and played a significant role in the growth and development of the company. Brenden began his career as an actuarial consultant at Ernst & Young where he primarily served the reinsurance industry.

UK insurer Aviva announced the promotion of Andrea Montague as chief risk officer.

Andrea Montague

Montague joined Aviva in April 2020 as group chief financial controller and has previously worked at Royal London and Standard Life in senior finance and audit leadership roles, including deputy group finance director and chief internal auditor

John Cummings

She and John Cummings, the current chief information officer, will both join Aviva’s Executive Committee, subject to regulatory approval. Both will report to Amanda Blanc, Group Chief Executive Officer.

Before becoming CIO for the group, Cummings was previously CIO for Aviva’s UK General Insurance business. Previous technology positions have included roles at Vodafone and BT.

His appointment to Aviva’s Executive Committee reflects the critical importance of technology and digital to Aviva’s transformation, said the company in a statement.
