W.R. Berkley Corp. made two executive appointments. AXIS Insurance named a new head of U.S. Excess & Surplus Property. Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance promoted an executive to head its healthcare underwriting operation and team in Germany.

W.R. Berkley Corp. made two executive appointments.

The company said it has promoted Robert Standen to the role of executive vice president, through which he will have oversight responsibility for certain Berkley operating units.

Meanwhile, Scott Holbrook succeeds Standen as president of Berkley company Key Risk Insurance.

Standen joined Key Risk Insurance in 2003 as executive vice president and chief claims officer and assumed the role of president in 2007. Berkley said he has been instrumental in advancing the operating unit’s leadership position and expansion in the mono-line workers compensation segment.

Holbrook has 25 years of experience in the commercial lines property casualty insurance business. He most recently served as the senior vice president for the Mid-Atlantic division for Chubb, according to his LinkedIn profile

AXIS Insurance, part of AXIS Capital Holdings Limited, named Michael Carr as head of U.S. Excess & Surplus Property.

In this role, Carr is responsible for developing and executing AXIS Insurance’s E&S Property underwriting strategy and achieving profitable growth along with quality and diversification of its underwriting portfolio. Carr reports to Carlton Maner, CEO of AXIS Insurance’s U.S. Division, and is based in the company’s Alpharetta, Ga., office.

Before joining AXIS, Carr was executive vice president and head of Property at Ethos Specialty Insurance Services. He was previously at Liberty International Underwriters where he was a senior vice president in the company’s E&S Property division. Prior to that, Carr was the Atlanta regional property manager for Max Specialty and Crum & Foster. He has also held various Property underwriting roles at ACE USA and AIG.

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance promoted Michael Pille to head its fast-growing healthcare underwriting operation and team in Germany.

In this newly created position, Pille will lead BHSI’s effort to service the German healthcare market and expand its local healthcare team.

Pille has more than a decade of underwriting experience in the German market. He joined joined BHSI in 2017 as senior underwriter, Liability.
