W.R. Berkley Corp. made two new executive appointments, both promotions from within. Great American Insurance promoted a veteran executive from one of its units to senior vice president within its Property & Casualty Group.
W.R. Berkley Corp. recently made two new executive appointments.
James Gilbert is now executive vice president – enterprise technology and Nelson Tavares was named executive vice president with oversight responsibility for certain of the Company’s operating units. The appointments are effective immediately.
Gilbert had served as executive vice president with oversight responsibility for certain of the Company’s operating units since 2018. He joined W. R. Berkley Corporation in 2006 as BerkleyNet’s senior vice president of actuarial and operations and was named president of the operating unit in 2014. Gilbert has nearly 30 years of experience in the property casualty insurance industry.
Tavares joined W.R. Berkley in 2011 as senior vice president – claims. He has over 30 years of experience in property and casualty insurance, with a particular emphasis on complex casualty claims.
Great American Insurance Group. promoted Carol Sipe to the position of senior vice president within its Property & Casualty Group.
Sipe has served as president of Summit, a provider of workers compensation coverage in the United States, since 2009. She has held a variety of roles within Summit since joining the company in 1989, including senior vice president and chief operating officer. American Financial Group, Inc., Great American’s parent company, acquired Summit in 2014.
Sipe will continue her role as president of Summit, and also serve as the reporting officer overseeing one of Great American’s subsidiaries, Republic Indemnity.
Summit provides comprehensive workers compensation insurance services to businesses in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
