AXIS Capital Holdings’ AXIS Insurance made two new executive appointments. A former Hiscox USA executive is joining cyber insurance startup At-Bay as General Counsel and Head of Claims.

AXIS Capital Holdings’ AXIS Insurance appointed Sam Walsh as senior underwriter and Mat Pifer as an underwriter in its renewables division.

The pair will be jointly responsible for underwriting new and renewal, property and liability renewable energy business in North America, including large wind and solar photovoltaic portfolios, as well as battery energy storage risks. They will report to Tom Cain, Head of U.S. Renewable Energy at AXIS.

Walsh joins AXIS from GCube Insurance Services, where he was senior underwriter of onshore wind and solar risks in North America. He has more than 10 years of experience in the renewable energy insurance industry, and joined GCube in 2009 as an underwriter.

Before joining the AXIS Renewable Energy team, Pifer spent the past four years working as a senior underwriter in AXIS Insurance’s Commercial Management Solutions team where he underwrote public and private D&O risks. Pifer began his career at Aon in 2011 as a lawyer’s professional liability broker.

Cyber insurance startup At-Bay hired Tara Bodden as General Counsel and Head of Claims.

In her new role, Bodden will be responsible for driving At-Bay’s claims strategy as a specialty insurer and will lead At-Bay’s legal and compliance efforts as the company continues to expand its insurance capabilities. Bodden will be based in San Francisco and part of At-Bay’s executive leadership team.

Previously, Bodden was at Hiscox USA, where she was Senior Vice President and Head of Claims for Cyber, Media, and Technology, and interim Head of Claims for the U.S. for six months. During her time at Hiscox, Bodden led a group of claims attorneys, partnered with other business functions to identify new opportunities and exposures, and championed delivery of an exceptional customer experience. She also led the company in responding to cyber privacy incidents and advised the board and executives on legal and business strategies.
