Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance hired veteran executives from RSA, Chubb and Allianz to fill three key leadership positions in Madrid. Marsh & McLennan made executive appointments in two of its divisions.

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) said it has filled three key leadership positions in Madrid, naming Diego Espinosa as Head of Property, Juan Madrid as Head of Casualty, and Tomás Blas as Head of Technical Lines.

Espinosa comes to BHSI with more than a decade of industry experience at RSA Spain, where he was most recently Property Development Leader/Property Lead Underwriter. He began his career at the Global Graduate Programme at RSA in Mexico.

Madrid has more than 35 years of industry experience, most recently as Liabilities Manager at Chubb Iberia. Before that, he spent 14 years in casualty underwriting at AIG Europe Limited, most recently as Casualty, Healthcare and Motor Fleets Manager in Spain and Portugal.

Blas has nearly 15 years of industry experience, most recently as Regional Head of Engineering Lines, Mediterranean Region at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS). Before that, he was Head of Engineering Lines for Spain & Portugal and Global Practice Group Leader of Utilities, Services, IT & Communications at AGCS.

In Spain, BHSI will serve corporate business property and casualty accounts across all industries. In technical lines, BHSI is targeting construction, power, energy and engineering risks of all sizes.

Marsh & McLennan-owned Guy Carpenter & Company, LLC appointed Dominic Samengo-Turner to the role of Global Facultative Leader.

Samengo-Turner will help drive connectivity and collaboration across the Facultative business, bringing a global lens to managing the Guy Carpenter’s Facultative operations. Samengo-Turner will be responsible for creating and sharing best practices, driving facultative-related investments, strategic hiring and overseeing Guy Carpenter’s network business. Based in London, he will report to John Trace, CEO, North America, with accountability also to James Nash, CEO, International.

Samengo-Turner career spans more than 35 years, and he has previously held key senior leadership roles in London and Asia at JLT and other global insurance brokers. Currently Samengo-Turner is Head of Marsh JLT Specialty, Asia, based in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, Marsh, another Marsh & McLennan business, announced that Simon Delchar will assume the position of Head of Marsh JLT Specialty, Asia. He’ll succeed Samengo-Turner as of January 1, 2020. Currently Deputy Head, Marsh JLT Specialty, Asia, Delchar brings 30 years of insurance industry experience to the role, having previously held senior leadership positions at JLT, Marsh and Alexander Howden. He will report to Lucy Clarke, President, Marsh JLT Specialty and David Jacob, CEO, Marsh Asia and will remain based in Singapore.

In this role, Delchar will oversee Marsh JLT Specialty’s Energy, Credit, Marine, Financial and Professional, Private Equity and M&A (PEMA), Construction, and Aviation businesses for the region, responsible for ensuring clients have access to products and services they need.
