AXA XL hired a Zurich veteran to lead a Captive Practice in Canada. Guy Carpenter & Co. named a new chairman. Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd. appointed its latest chief information officer.

AXA XL is opening a local Captive Practice in Canada and has hired Alonso Tello to lead it.

Tello’s appointment is part of AXA XL’s push to expand the group’s services for Canadian large commercial customers and brokers, the company said.

In this new role, Tello will oversee the continued growth of AXA XL’s captive business in Canada. He will provide technical support across business lines in structuring global captive programs; ensure global programs are in compliance and following best practices; and work with AXA XL clients and broking partners to develop new and innovative captive products.

Previously, Tello was with Zurich in London where he most recently served as Senior Fronting Manager – Captive Services and ART (Commercial Insurance UK). Tello has a decade of industry experienced focused on captive, integrated multiline multi-year, loss portfolio transfers, as well as large multinational Property and Casualty lines.

Guy Carpenter & Co. named David Priebe as chairman of the company – a global risk and reinsurance specialist and a wholly owned subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan.

In his new position Priebe will work with Guy Carpenter President and CEO Peter Hearn to integrate Guy Carpenter and JLT Re capabilities following MMC’s April 1 acquisition of JLT. He will continue to work closely with John Trace, CEO of North America, to support key North America-based clients and also interact with numerous global clients of Guy Carpenter. As well, Priebe also will continue to oversee the firm’s recently created Global Capital Solutions Group, which is comprised of GC Securities and Global Risk Solutions, led by Shiv Kumar and Ed Hochberg respectively.

Priebe, most recently vice chairman of Guy Carpenter, will continue to report to Hearn, and remains as a member of the company’s Executive Committee.

Priebe has held various leadership roles at Guy Carpenter since 1981.

Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd. appointed Mary Kotch as its Chief Information Officer.

Kotch has more than 20 years’ experience in strategic technology innovation, application shared services, managing a global project management office, infrastructure, architecture, and digital and data management. Along with her new position, Kotch will join the Aspen Group Executive Committee.

Previously, Kotch served in senior executive technology roles at Validus Group and AIG. She was recently named one of the ‘2019 Top 50 Women in Technology’ by the U.S. National Diversity Council.
