Great American Insurance Group launched a new division focused on Accident & Health coverage, and a former Arch Insurance Group executive will lead it.
The new division is Great American’s 35th specialty property/casualty business. Great American said it will build on its existing array of Accident & Health insurance coverages and be located in Charlottesville, Va.
James Slate will lead Great American’s Accident & Health arm as divisional president. The 25-year insurance industry veteran has extensive experience leading accident and health lines, including underwriting, product development and distribution strategy. Before joining Great American, he served as head of Accident and Health for Arch Insurance Group and also held leadership roles within AIG, Allianz and Markel.
Gary Gruber, president and chief operating officer of Great American’s Property and Casualty Group, said in prepared remarks that the insurer’s entrepreneurial culture is helping to fuel the launch of its new division.
