Markel International is bringing a Chubb and AIG veteran on board to head its personal accident, contingency and entertainment business in Asia. Aspen Re made two major executive promotions and a third executive is departing.

Specialist insurer Markel International appointed Chubb and AIG veteran Rajesh Sinha as head of personal accident, contingency and entertainment (PACE) in Asia.

Rajesh has 20 years’ experience as a regional underwriter with American International Group and subsequently as Regional Director for A&H with Fairfax Asia. Most recently he was with Chubb Asia Pacific as a senior underwriter for A&H.

Based in Singapore, Rajesh will oversee development of new product concepts across different product lines, and also further develop a profitable and sustainable PACE portfolio across Asia.

Rajesh will work closely with Markel International’s PACE team in London, managed by James Leach, as well as with its offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, China, India and Malaysia.

Christian Dunleavy will become Aspen Re’s new chief underwriting officer, and also join Aspen’s Executive Committee.

Dunleavy is currently Managing Director, Aspen Re and chief executive officer and chief underwriting officer of Aspen Bermuda Ltd. He succeeds Emil Issavi, who is also Managing Director of the Americas for Aspen Re. Issavi is leaving Aspen to become a senior executive of RSG, RSG Underwriting Managers, LLC and Ryan Re Underwriting Managers, LLC, an RSG affiliate company.

In addition, Peter Emblin, currently Managing Director, London & Global Head of Specialty, Aspen Re, has been appointed Senior Managing Director, Aspen Re.

Dunleavy has served as Chief Executive Officer of Aspen Bermuda Limited since May 2019 and Chief Underwriting Officer of Aspen Bermuda Limited since May 2017. He joined Aspen Re in September 2015 as Head of Global Property Catastrophe after previously having been at Axis Reinsurance, where he was a Senior Vice President, responsible for U.S. Property Treaty, Caribbean Property and Workers Compensation Catastrophe business. Before Axis in 2002, Dunleavy was a Senior Analyst at RenaissanceRe, responsible for multi-peril modeling, pricing and portfolio analysis.

Emblin joined Aspen in September 2009 to establish a dedicated reinsurance platform in Latin America. In early 2011 he became the head of Specialty Reinsurance London, and also assumed responsibility for the company’s reinsurance business in Asia and the Middle East in August of the same year. Emblin was appointed Managing Director for London & Global Head of Specialty, Aspen Re in June 2017. Previously, he was a Managing Director at Swiss Re, leading their Latin American region for both Property, Casualty and Life business as well as heading the treaty business for the large national accounts sector in the U.S. Before that, he spent time with Munich Re in various senior marketing and underwriting positions in both New York and Munich.
