Beazley named a new executive to help grow its engineering business in the U.S. and Latin America. Nationwide hired a financial industry veteran to be chief of investment research for a key division. Kemper Corp. added an executive to its board of directors. Guy Carpenter appointed a long-time executive with the company lead its Asia Pacific region.
Santiago Jaramillo is Beazley’s new engineering focus group leader for the U.S. and Latin America.
Jaramillo reports to Colin Rose, Beazley’s head of construction and engineering. He’ll also be supported by an additional underwriter in Miami, Beazley’s hub for its Latin American business.
Jaramillo joined Beazley in 2016. Rose, in prepared remarks, said Jaramillo’s new executive focus is “a key position.”
Jaramillo has more than 20 years’ experience in construction, engineering and heavy industry. He’ll be responsible for building Beazley’s U.S. portfolio, with builders’ risk teams in San Francisco and Atlanta reporting to him as of Aug. 1.
A veteran financial executive will be joining a division of Nationwide in a leadership role.
Mark Hackett has been named chief of Investment Research for Nationwide Funds. In his new role, he’ll lead Nationwide Funds’ capital markets analysis and mutual funds thought leadership initiative, developing content to educate financial advisors and their clients on financial markets and implications for investors. He’ll also oversee asset class research, market commentary, white papers and topic market pieces.
Separately, Hackett will also support several teams within Nationwide’s mutual funds division with his capital markets expertise.
Hackett is a 17-year veteran of the asset management industry, including research roles for both Nuveen and Vanguard Group, and a portfolio management role for Nuveen.
Susan Whiting joined Kemper Corp.’s board of directors, expanding the insurer’s board to 10 directors.
Whiting served until 2014 as vice chair of Nielsen Holdings, a global performance management company that provides a comprehensive understanding of what consumers watch and purchase.
During Whiting’s 35-year career with Nielsen, she held various executive positions with the company including president, chief operating officer, chief executive officer and chairman of Nelsen Media Research.
Whiting currently serves on the board of directors for Alliant Energy Corp., Moxie Software and PageVault.
Guy Carpenter & Co. appointed Tony Gallagher as CEO of the Asia Pacific Region.
Previously Gallagher was CEO of the Pacific Region for Guy Carpenter. In his new role, he’ll be responsible for strengthening Guy Carpenter’s market position across the Asia Pacific region, and helping to boost its client service capabilities. He’ll be based in Hong Kong and report to James Nash, president, International.
In a related move, Richard Jones has been promoted to Chairman of the Region. He’ll work with Gallagher to further develop the firm’s growth strategy for the region, and be based in Singapore.
Jones will also continue in his role as Head of Singapore, and report to Nash.
