XL Catlin promoted an executive to lead its international environmental arm. Ironshore hired a new executive in Australia. Willis Towers Watson appointed an executive to guide its global risk consulting and software operations.

XL Catlin promoted Adias Gerbaud to head international environmental.

In her newly expanded role, Gerbaud will be responsible for managing XL Catlin’s environmental portfolio while leading a team of eleven underwriters across the UK, Western Europe and Australia. She is based in Madrid, Spain.

Gerbaud joined XL Catlin’s Spanish operation in 2007 as a claims adjuster. She moved to London in 2008 to become a member of the environmental underwriting team before returning to Spain in 2010 to lead the environmental insurance business in Iberia. She was appointed underwriting manager environmental, Southern Europe & Latin America, in 2013. She became head environmental, EMEA, in 2016.

XL Catlin said Gerbaud’s appointment is in line with its drive to further strengthen its environmental insurance capabilities across its EMEA, LatAm and APAC regions.

Ironshore International named William Lewis to be managing director Ironshore Australia Pty Limited, and he’ll be based in the Sydney office.

Lewis, a private equity attorney, is a specialist in private equity transactions, tax structuring and insurance, advising private equity firms in London, Australia and New Zealand. Previously, Lewis was head of Mergers and Acquisitions, Ironshore Asia Pacific, responsible for overseeing M&A business lines throughout the region, including Sydney, Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo. He reports to Hui Yun Boo, managing director, Ironshore Asia Pacific.

Lewis joined Ironshore in 2012 as a Mergers and Acquisitions manager in Sydney and was promoted to head the specialty business lines unit in 2016. Lewis’ professional career also involved lead advisory positions with Weil Gotshal and Manges, Allen & Overy, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Ironshore Australia, established in 2011, underwrites a comprehensive suite of specialty corporate and commercial coverages across all business lines throughout the region. Ironshore Asia Pacific offices are also located in Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and China.

Willis Towers Watson appointed Alice Underwood as the global head of its Risk Consulting and Software business.

Based in New York, Underwood joins the RCS team from Willis Re, Willis Towers Watson’s reinsurance business, where she led the North America analytics team and was a member of the Willis Re global leadership team.

Before joining Willis Towers Watson in 2006, Underwood led a team of actuaries and catastrophe modelers at Guy Carpenter. Prior to that, she led the specialty lines pricing team for Converium Re’s North America operations and served as a lead actuary for Zurich Financial Services in both North America and Switzerland.

Underwood will continue to lead the Willis Re North America analytics team until a successor is appointed.
