Two XL Catlin executives have jumped ship, signing on with Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd. to help launch and grow its Singapore operations.
Yann Marmonier will lead Aspen’s Singapore business, and gains the executive title of principal officer and managing director. He joins Aspen after serving most recently as XL Catlin’s Singapore country manager.
Paul Hackett, most recently with XL Catlin in Singapore, is now head of marine for Aspen’s Singapore office.
Aspen, in its announcement of the two hires and push into Singapore, said the division will initially focus on areas including onshore and offshore energy, marine hull, accident and health, terrorism, financial and corporate risks, professional indemnity, technology, data protection and cyber, credit and political risk insurance risks.
The Bermuda-based insurer and reinsurer said its move into Singapore follows an ongoing strategy of leveraging its strengths in certain product lines in target markets around the world.
Ann Haugh, president of Aspen International Insurance and chief operating officer for Aspen Insurance, said in prepared remarks that the advance into Singapore helps create new opportunity by bringing Aspen in “closer proximity to existing and new clients.”
Before XL Catlin, Marmonier also held various executive positions with Catlin in Singapore, including branch chief executive officer. Previously, Hackett spent close to 20 years with RSA in various underwriting and management positions.
Aspen’s move into Singapore will happen through Aspen’s Lloyd’s syndicate on the Lloyd’s Asia platform beginning on Jan. 1, 2016, pending regulatory approval.
