The National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) said President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Donnell plans to retire in February 2025 after about 10 years with the organization.

“It’s been such a privilege to lead this organization and this amazing group of professionals,” said Donnell. “The work we’ve done together, in support of this noble profession of workers compensation, will live on to positively influence the lives and safety of workers across the country. I feel lucky to have been a part of NCCI as it completed its first century of outstanding service and began the pursuit of its next.”

A committee is being formed to find the next CEO, NCCI said, as Donnell—who came to NCCI in 2015 and is credited with leading the organization toward a more forward-looking, innovative and thought-leading role within the industry—continues running operations.

“The NCCI board thanks Bill for his leadership and service during his outstanding tenure as head of the organization,” said Brandon Fick, NCCI board chair and chief underwriting officer at Liberty Mutual Global Risk Solutions North America. “Under his watch, the organization continues to deliver unwaveringly on its promise to its stakeholders and bravely took on topics and challenges to help lead the industry into the decades ahead. But perhaps what is most impressive is the great humanity and heart he displays as a leader, genuinely caring a great deal for the people he leads.”

Donnell has over three decades of industry experience specializing in property and casualty insurance/reinsurance in both global and domestic U.S. leadership roles. Immediately prior to joining NCCI, he was the president of Swiss Re’s Property and Casualty Reinsurance business.
