Zurich Insurance Group has appointed Sarah Maillet as chief financial officer of Commercial Insurance, effective June 1, 2022. She will report to Sierra Signorelli, CEO Commercial Insurance, and be based in Zurich, Switzerland.

Maillet brings more than 20 years of finance expertise in the insurance industry and has significant management experience, having led teams across multiple jurisdictions. Most recently, she was CFO of Aviva Insurance Ltd, based in the UK. Previously she held senior roles at AIG, including Global Commercial and Americas CFO.

Maillet succeeds Paolo Mantero, who was appointed group chief strategy officer last year.

SiriusPoint Ltd. has appointed Nick Pascall as head of London and International Casualty. He will be responsible for driving the London and International Casualty underwriting strategy in line with the SiriusPoint group risk appetite, identifying profitable growth opportunities and innovating product offerings.

Pascall, who has 30 years of experience in the industry, joins from AXA XL Re, London, where he was head of U.S. Casualty Reinsurance. Prior to that, he was head of Casualty Reinsurance at Hiscox Re.

He will report to Robert Harman, general manager, SiriusPoint London Branch, and work collaboratively with the U.S. Casualty underwriting team to develop the Casualty business across the group’s underwriting platforms.

Acrisure has appointed Matthew Kirk as executive vice president and head of Insurance Strategy and Execution.

Kirk joins Acrisure following 16 years at The Hartford, where he served as SVP, chief sales and distribution officer, Small Commercial. Prior to his time with The Hartford, Kirk was Deputy Assistant to President George W. Bush in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs and worked in the office of United States Senator Don Nickles.

In this new leadership role, Kirk will join Acrisure’s insurance executive leadership team and will report to Grahame Millwater, president of Global Insurance. Kirk will focus on supporting the strategic execution of Acrisure’s wider insurance plans, with a particular focus on deployment of AI-based technology, its MGA platform strategy, accelerating value chain compression and deepening its carrier partnerships.

Canopius Group, the London-based global specialty re/insurer, announced that, after nearly 17 years of service, Group Chief Underwriting Officer Mike Duffy will retire in 12 months’ time.

Duffy joined Canopius in January 2006 as head of direct and facultative (D&F) property, progressing during his tenure to serve as chief executive officer of Canopius Managing Agents before he became group CUO.

During his more than 40-year insurance career, Duffy has held numerous roles in the London market and also worked abroad, most notably in New York.

Duffy will remain at Canopius for the next 12 months to oversee an orderly transition to his successor—to be announced—and will leave in May 2023.
