RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. has made key appointments to advance its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy.

Kevin J. O’Donnell, president and chief executive officer of RenaissanceRe, will serve as chair of ClimateWise. ClimateWise, in partnership with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership brings together reinsurers, insurers, brokers and industry service providers to promote a systematic response to climate change across the financial system.

Harriet James has been promoted to VP, ESG Strategy within the Corporate Strategy Team, responsible for managing and progressing ESG strategy across the company, including identifying and managing ESG priorities and driving the development of new sustainability initiatives.

Cathal Carr, SVP, Underwriting, has been named global head of Climate and Sustainability Strategy, responsible for designing, executing and coordinating RenaissanceRe’s climate and sustainability underwriting strategy across both Property and Casualty and Specialty segments. This includes leading the development of new products and tools to respond to emerging underwriting opportunities.

Jeffrey Manson, SVP, Underwriting and head of Global Public Sector Partnerships, will report to Carr and manage public sector partnerships, with a focus on responding to climate change and reducing the protection gap in emerging risk classes.

AXIS Capital Holdings Limited has appointed Fintan Mullarkey as CEO of AXIS Specialty Europe SE (ASE), subject to regulatory approval.

Mullarkey has served as head of Finance for ASE and AXIS Re SE for the past 10 years. He is also a non-executive director of AXIS Managing Agency Ltd.

ASE is AXIS Capital’s Specialty Insurance legal entity domiciled in Ireland and regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland, with branches in Belgium and the UK. In this role, Mullarkey will be responsible for ASE and the legal entity aspects of its branches. He will also join the board of Directors of ASE.

Mullarkey will continue to be based in Dublin. He succeeds Helen O’Sullivan, who was named group treasurer for AXIS Capital in January 2022. O’Sullivan remains a director of ASE and ARe.

“Fintan has been with AXIS for 18 years and he brings extensive experience in international insurance and global operations, and the financial, regulatory and leadership capabilities necessary to manage a highly regulated legal entity such as ASE,” said Pete Vogt, chief financial officer of AXIS Capital.

Specialist insurer Beazley has appointed Christian Taube as its new head of Cyber Services – International. Based out of Beazley’s Munich office, he will be responsible for further developing and enhancing the cyber risk management and incident response functions.

Before joining Beazley, Taube was chief information security officer at Contentserv and, prior to that, he built the information security practice at DataGuard.

Taube began his role on March 7, 2022, joining the Beazley team in Germany. His recruitment follows the recent appointments of Russ Cohen as head of U.S. Cyber Services and Bala Larson as head of Client Experience in February.
