Ortega, a 20-year veteran of the company, will have executive operating responsibility for Chubb’s General Insurance business in 51 countries outside of North America, including commercial P&C, traditional and specialty personal lines, and accident and health insurance.

Chubb Overseas General handles distribution through retail brokers in five regions of the world – Europe, Asia Pacific, Japan, Latin America and Eurasia & Africa. It also entails an excess and surplus lines company with distribution through brokers in the London wholesale market and Lloyd’s. Ortega’s scope of responsibility will include all products, underwriting, claims, actuarial and support functions related to these businesses, Chubb said.

Ortega was named Regional President of Latin America in 2016 and served as Regional President of Asia Pacific from 2013 -2016, a position he retained after ACE’s acquisition of Chubb. Previously, Ortega served as Senior Vice President, A&H, for the company’s Asia Pacific region. He joined ACE in 1999 and advanced through a series of accident and health and credit insurance management positions in Miami, Puerto Rico and Mexico, before being named Country President of Chile in 2005, where he was responsible for ACE’s P&C, A&H and life insurance businesses in that country. Ortega has also served as Senior Vice President and Regional Head of Accident & Health for the company’s Latin America region.

Meanwhile, Chubb appointed Marcos Gunn to replace Ortega as Regional President, Latin America, and Gunn will also carry the title of senior vice president, Chubb Group.

In his new role, he’ll report to Ortega. He’ll continue with his current responsibilities for an interim period and his successor will be announced shortly.

Gunn has more than 20 years of insurance industry experience. When ACE completed its acquisition of Chubb in 2016, he was appointed president, Northern Latin America Region, in addition to his role as Chief Operating Officer for the company’s Latin America operations. Gunn joined ACE in 2000, and has served in a variety of management roles of increasing responsibility, including Country President of Chile; Regional Vice President of Accident and Health, Latin America; and Regional Vice President of Accident & Health, Asia Pacific. Before joining ACE, he served as a commercial insurance underwriter at Chubb in Argentina, as well as underwriting and management positions at other insurance companies.
