The leader of a major AXIS Re division is retiring, and someone is being promoted from within to replace him. PartnerRe hired an outside executive to help run its Americas division.
AXIS Re appointed Andy Hottinger as president of its EMEA LatAm division.
Hottinger will succeed longtime AXIS Re colleague and EMEA LatAm President Jan Ekberg, who will retire in July following a 45-year career in the insurance and reinsurance industry, which has included 15 years at AXIS.
Hottinger will be part of the company’s Reinsurance Leadership Team and report directly to AXIS Re CEO Steve Arora. AXIS RE is the reinsurance business segment of AXIS Capital Holdings Limited.
Hottinger has held a number of underwriting managerial roles within AXIS Re, most recently serving as head of Property EMEA and, prior to that, head of Engineering and Property Risk. He will be formally appointed to his new role on July 1, 2019, following Ekberg’s retirement.
A former AXIS Re executive is joining PartnerRe to help run its Americas division.
Beginning July 1, 2019, Jonathan Colello will be CEO, P&C Americas, and president of Partners Reinsurance Company of the U.S. He’ll report to PartnerRe President and CEO Emmanuel Clarke, and also be a member of the company’s Executive Leadership Team. In his new role, Colello will lead PartnerRe’s property/casualty business in the U.S., Canada and Latin America, and also PartnerRe’s U.S. Health business.
Colello, a 20-year industry veteran, has extensive reinsurance experience. Most recently, Colello has been president North America for AXIS Re, where he was responsible for all underwriting platforms in Bermuda, Canada and the United States and served as a member of the Reinsurance Leadership Team. Previously, Colello served as president and chief underwriting officer, U.S., for AXIS Re and also managed the U.S. underwriting operation.
