A veteran of QBE Group and the old Fireman’s Fund Insurance is joining AIG to lead its Private Client Group, a division that serves the insurance giant’s high net worth customers.

Kathleen Zortman is signing on to American International Group as president and chief executive officer of its Private Client Group, General Insurance. In this new role, Zortman will lead AIG’s global High Net Worth portfolio, overseeing strategy, underwriting and distribution for AIG’s private client business. Based in New York, she will also manage High Net Worth’s product lines, including personal auto, homeowners and umbrella policies, AIG said.

Plans call for Zortman to join after a “transition period,” after which she’ll report to Peter Zaffino, CEO of AIG General Insurance and global chief operating officer of AIG proper. As well, she’ll serve as a member of AIG’s General Insurance Executive Leadership Team.

Zaffino, in prepared remarks, referred to Zortman as “an industry leader with a proven track record of building successful businesses.”

Zortman is joining AIG from QBE Insurance Group, where she served as president of Property & Casualty, North America, overseeing the largest of QBE’s four business lines. Before QBE, she was chief field executive of Fireman’s Fund Insurance from 2011 through 2015.

Earlier in her career, Zortman held leadership roles at Professional Risk Solutions, Johnson & Higgins, Deloitte and Chubb.
