Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance is expanding operations in Germany.
The insurer said that it has opened a new office in Munich, adding to existing operations in Dusseldorf. Both offices will underwrite property, casualty, medical malpractice, marine, and executive and professional lines for a broad range of business segments in Germany.
BHSI explained that it intends to build substantial local underwriting and claims capabilities in the new office and has filled its first two posts in Munich with Lars Messutat, senior underwriter, Property, and Florian Biebrach, senior underwriter, Financial Lines, both of whom relocated from BHSI in Dusseldorf.
Chris Colahan, president, BHSI in Europe and the U.K., said that the new Munich office will give the insurer a better ability to bring its product offerings to both the German and European marketplaces.
Beyond Munich and Dusseldorf, BHSI has offices in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Indianapolis, Irvine, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, San Ramon, Seattle, Stevens Point, Auckland, Brisbane, Dubai, Dublin, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, London, Macau, Melbourne, Perth, Singapore, Sydney and Toronto. The insurer is based in Boston.
