The Hartford has named Tracey Ant head of Middle & Large Commercial Business Units effective Jan. 1. In this newly created role, she will oversee all Middle & Large Commercial business units, driving underwriting excellence across multiple industries including construction, large property, real estate, life sciences, technology, energy, and marine.

She will continue to report to A. Morris “Mo” Tooker, head of Middle & Large Commercial, Global Specialty and Sales & Distribution.

Ant has more than 25 years of insurance industry experience. She began her career as a casualty underwriter at The Hartford, followed by roles at Marsh McLennan.

Gretchen Thompson will replace Ant in leading Middle & Large Commercial’s General Industries, Technology, Life Sciences and Large Property, as well as field operations, alternative distribution and underwriting centers.

Thompson has been with The Hartford since 2005 and is currently head of Construction, Inland Marine, Excess Solutions and Complex Liability Solutions for Middle & Large Commercial. Prior to joining The Hartford, she held various finance positions at General Electric.

In addition, effective Nov. 1, Stephen Screen will become The Hartford’s new head of Enterprise Sales & Distribution, reporting to Tooker. He will be responsible for strengthening agent and broker relationships to help bolster sales growth across Small Commercial, Middle & Large Commercial and Global Specialty.

With more than 14 years at The Hartford, Screen has held roles of increasing responsibility including technology underwriter, Middle Market manager and most recently head of Distribution Management.

Fortitude Re has named Denise Nichols as chief human resources officer, effective Nov. 1, 2022.

Nichols most recently served as CHRO for Voya Health and Wealth Solutions, where she was responsible for human capital strategy, talent acquisition, leadership development, and inclusion and diversity.

Prior to that, she held various roles at Marsh & McLennan Companies, including head of Human Resources for Marsh U.S., head of Global Talent Acquisition and chief administrative officer for Marsh Global Specialties. Additionally, as an executive coach, Nichols has partnered with over 70 executives across more than 20 countries to maximize their leadership performance personally and professionally. She is also certified in the Hogan Assessment Systems and the Insights Discovery Psychometric Assessment.

She succeeds Amanda Stewart, who will be assuming the role of senior vice president, Employee Experience, reporting to Nichols. In this new role, Stewart will be responsible for Fortitude Re’s strategy to deliver an employee experience that is engaging, enriching and rewarding.
