The online job site, Indeed.com, posted a list of the top jobs of 2022 last last week, finding that registered nurse positions ranked first in employer demand, salary (using a baseline annual salary of $75,000) and consistent growth in the number of job postings from 2019 to 2022.

Of particular interest to commercial lines insurers writing workers compensation and auto coverages is that last factor—growth in postings. And focusing on just that one data point, the top-ranked position is “over-the-road trucker,” according to Indeed.

The job site reports that high demand for truckers is evidenced by a 242 percent jump in job posting over 2019, positioning a job that requires a high school diploma and commands an average base salary of just over $100,000, above two technology positions—IT consultants and site reliability engineers.

Still those tech job categories are growing too, with the percentage growth between 2019 and 2022 for IT consultants recorded at 182 percent, and site reliability engineers at 175 percent.

“Companies are paying truckers more than ever before and also offering five-figure sign-on bonuses and full benefits as they compete to attract more drivers,” Indeed said in an article accompanying the rankings.

Rounding out the five highest growth job titles were growth marketers and solar consultants.

According to Indeed, growth marketing strategies typically involve gathering data via search engine optimization (SEO), A/B testing and key performance indicators.

In the ranking based on all three factors—employer demand, salary and consistent growth—over-the-road truckers placed sixth, ahead of software engineers. Site reliability managers placed third, while other top jobs were optometrists (No. 2), real estate agents (No. 4), and pharmacists (No. 5).

Indeed highlighted the high demand for health care workers, with jobs in the health care industry taking four out of the top 10 spots. Nurse practitioners, ranked eighth, was last medical job category (in addition to registered nurse, optometrist and pharmacist).

Site reliability managers took the No. 1 spot when jobs were ranked on salary alone.

No insurance-specific jobs were shown on any of the lists published by Indeed.
