Hamilton Re will turn to a veteran of AXIS Capital and AIG as its new chief executive officer.
Megan Thomas is taking on the CEO slot, Hamilton Re parent Hamilton Insurance Group announced on Sept. 9. She succeeds David Brown, the chairman of Hamilton Re who was appointed interim CEO in early August to replace Kathleen Reardon, who left the company.
Thomas will report to Group CEO Pina Albo and be based in Bermuda. Pending immigration and regulatory approvals, her anticipated start date will be in October.
Hamilton, in prepared remarks, said Thomas brings a number of important skills to the company during a hardening market, including global underwriting experience “across multiple lines of business” and “her strong leadership and relationships with clients and brokers.”
Thomas is a 20-year insurance and reinsurance industry veteran. Australian by birth and a lawyer by training, she was most recently at AXIS Capital where she has served as Chief Underwriting Officer, Reinsurance for the last two years. Thomas began her career in the Australian insurance and financial services market, and spent almost 13 years at AIG in increasingly senior roles before joining AXIS.
Hamilton Insurance Group is a Bermuda-based specialty insurer and reinsurer. Hamilton Re is the company’s reinsurance and insurance platform in Bermuda.
