Qatar Re announced the appointment of Alastair Speare-Cole as chief underwriting officer, effective Jan. 12, 2015. He replaces Willi Schürch, who is retiring.
Qatar Re CEO Gunther Saacke said that “it is a great privilege to have such a high-caliber and widely respected reinsurance executive on board. Alastair’s vast experience across all traditional reinsurance lines as well as alternative solutions will further boost the expansion of Qatar Re’s franchise and lend an additional impetus to our aspiration of becoming a leading global reinsurer. In particular, his proven expertise in building and shaping powerful organizations will benefit our rapidly growing company.”
Speare-Cole joins the company from JLT Re, the world’s fourth-largest reinsurance broker, where he served as CEO since 2012. He has more than 30 years of experience in reinsurance across all lines of business. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, a Chartered Insurance Professional and a Fellow of the Geological Society in the UK.
