Grahame Chilton, who helped build Benfield Group Ltd. before selling it to Aon Plc in 2008, formed a partnership with Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. to start a reinsurance brokerage.
The new business, Capsicum Reinsurance Brokers LLP, will be based in the London, according to an e-mailed statement set to be distributed tomorrow from Itasca, Illinois-based Arthur J. Gallagher. Chilton, 54, left Aon in 2012 after serving as chairman of Aon Benfield, Arthur J. Gallagher said.
“I am convinced there is a demand in the market for a niche reinsurance intermediary to supply highly bespoke and specialist services,” Chilton said in the statement.
Capsicum will be the main treaty reinsurance broker for Gallagher and help it compete with rivals that arrange coverage for the biggest risks. Marsh & McLennan Cos. is the largest insurance broker by market value, followed by Aon and Willis Group Holdings Plc. Gallagher is fourth.
The Telegraph newspaper reported on the new venture.
