Florian Happ heads the Cyber Underwriting team at Munich Re US and in this role is a member of the Business Development Leadership team. With 20 years at Munich Re, Florian began his career underwriting Casualty Treaty for US Global Clients. He later transitioned to the Lloyd’s treaty team for Casualty and Financial Lines. During this time, he developed Munich Re’s footprint of cyber reinsurance business in the Lloyd’s market, handling mainly US-exposed accounts. He further led the efforts in building Munich Re’s underwriting approach and setting risk appetite. From 2018 to 2021, Florian served as a senior consultant to Munich Re Group’s board member for Global Clients and North America, working alongside the leadership team on various projects and initiatives across reinsurance and primary insurance. In 2022, Florian assumed a key role in Munich Re’s Digital Solutions practice, leading the data management and actuarial teams of Munich Re Data Solutions, a data service for clients delivering underwriting insights geared to improving pricing and risk selection. In 2025, Florian transitioned with his family from Germany to the United States to lead the Cyber Underwriting team at Munich Re US. Florian holds a doctorate in Economic and Social Sciences from the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich. He underwent professional vocational training in insurance and reinsurance and graduated with an M.S. in Business Administration.
