Aspen Insurance on Friday announced the appointment of Ann Haugh to the new position of global chief underwriting officer and chief operating officer, beginning Nov. 11.

Haugh, who most recently was group chief of staff for Zurich in Switzerland, has a wealth of experience in underwriting and operations, both in the U.S. and internationally. She served as chief executive officer for Zurich’s global corporate business in the U.K. and, prior to that, as COO for Zurich’s entire global corporate business. Haugh also worked for Great American Insurance Co. as an executive liability underwriter before moving to broader roles at Zurich U.S., Arch and Zurich Group. She will be based in London.
“Appointing a global CUO and COO provides a single focal point in terms of underwriting oversight and the day-to-day management of operational issues across the business,” said Rupert Villers, chairman of Aspen Insurance. “This new role adds to the strength of our insurance management team and will bring an even sharper focus to our global underwriting and operational strategies.”
Aspen Insurance is also bringing together its property and casualty businesses by creating integrated property/casualty subsegments in both its international and U.S. operations. Bob Patten, currently head of global excess casualty, will serve as head of international P/C; Bob Rheel, executive vice president of customer, distribution and marketing (CDM) for U.S. insurance, will serve as head of U.S. P/C and programs.
